Meet Dr. Valerie Marcano
Dr. Valerie C. Marcano, is an international speaker and advocate for inclusive mentorship and access to veterinary care. Dr. Marcano is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Veterinary Medical Scientist Training dual DVM-PhD Program and a diplomat of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians.
Widely recognized for her leadership, Dr. Marcano has held roles in research, government, diagnostics, and private industry. Dr. Marcano provides access to poultry health expertise, access to veterinary care, inclusive mentorship strategies, and professional coaching through her consulting firm, ValCri Consulting (pronunciation: val·kr·ee).
In 2020, Dr. Marcano co-founded Pawsibilities Vet Med, a 501c3 nonprofit that has helped reshape the mentorship and professional development landscape across the veterinary field. Through Pawsibilities Vet Med, Dr. Marcano introduced inclusive mentorship into the veterinary profession, to ensure that veterinary professionals from historically marginalized communities receive the guidance, resources, and support needed to thrive.
Dr. Marcano has been recognized for her contributions, receiving awards such as the Young Achiever Alumni Award and being named one of 22 Extraordinary Women in Veterinary Medicine. Through research, advocacy, mentorship, and hands-on service, she continues to shape a more inclusive and accessible future for veterinary medicine.
